general
The graduate program in Neural & Behavioural Sciences was established at the University of Tübingen in 1999 through the joint efforts of the Medical School, the School of Biology and the Max Institute for Biological Cybernetics. Training is also provided by prestigious research centres such as the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and the Natural & Medical Sciences Institute.
The program offers a unique curriculum and exciting research opportunities for graduate students who wish to pursue careers in science and academia. The interdisciplinary curriculum focuses on the role of higher brain functions in health and disease and will give students a broad expertise that is not easily achievable in any individual department.
Our aim is to provide students with state-of-the-art practical and theoretical training in sensory and motor systems neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuropsychology and neuroprosthetics. Of particular importance are brain imaging methods, both with respect to their physiological and technological basis and their application in neurology, psychiatry and neurocognition. This goal will be accomplished through a one-year initial interdisciplinary program of coursework and lab rotations followed by a master’s and, eventually, a doctoral thesis.
Students in the program will not only benefit from the participation of renowned international faculty within each of the participating departments and research centres, they will also benefit from the financial support of our cooperation partner, the Max-Planck-Society, who provides scholarships for master and doctoral students.
